The clothing brand J., founded by the late singer and Islamic scholar Junaid Jamshed, has officially merged with UI Garments, according to a report from a private TV channel on Friday. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has granted approval for this merger, marking a significant shift in the country’s fashion industry.
As part of the merger, UI Garments and Junaid Jamshed Private Limited filed a joint application seeking approval for UI Garments to acquire the entirety of Junaid Jamshed’s business through a share swap. With this approval in place, J. will no longer operate as an independent entity. All of Junaid Jamshed’s operations, assets, and liabilities will be fully integrated into UI Garments.
This strategic merger combines the robust manufacturing capabilities of UI Garments with the well-established retail presence of Junaid Jamshed’s brand, which has a long-standing reputation in Pakistan’s modest fashion market. Originally launched by the late Junaid Jamshed, the brand has continued to hold a strong customer base, even after the tragic death of its founder in a 2016 plane crash.
Despite this merger, industry experts believe the brand’s core identity will remain intact. It is expected that the merger will enhance UI Garments’ production capacity, while also preserving the key elements that made J. successful in the market.
At this stage, no immediate changes to retail operations or staffing have been disclosed. However, it is anticipated that the combined entity will streamline supply chains and could potentially expand its product offerings in the future.
