Fashion designer Anna Sui unveiled her Resort 2026 collection, drawing heavily from a trio of artistic exhibitions she visited over the past year. Sui cited inspiration from a Christian Bérard exhibition in Monaco, the “Color Revolution” exhibit at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and the ongoing John Singer Sargent show at the Tate and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Sui emphasized the influence of Sargent’s masterful depiction of textiles, stating that no one captured the richness and romance of clothing quite like the artist. This appreciation translated directly into the collection’s color palette, which featured a core trio of black, white, and custard yellow, complemented by various shades of Victorian-era purples and greens.
These colors infused a series of floral and wallpaper-inspired prints — including lilies of the valley, sketched roses, and ribbon handkerchief motifs — that added a fresh take on Sui’s signature girlish aesthetic. While her trademark prairie dresses and youthful sets remained a part of the offering, the collection branched into more modern territory. Highlights included Neo Romantic silhouettes like modern petticoat skirts, taffeta dresses, corset and peplum tops, and Victorian-style knitwear pieces, such as camisoles and cardigans.
Sui pointed out that several garments mirrored the aesthetics of historical fashion. She referenced a custard yellow blouse and lace-trimmed midi skirt, as well as crinkled or Fortuny-pleated midlength skirts and soft bed dresses that closely resembled those found in Victorian museum collections.
Throughout the collection, Sui’s Neo Romantic vision remained clear, offering her loyal clientele the blend they have come to expect — youthful, modern, and easy-to-wear garments, all grounded in vintage charm.
