Katy Perry has come under fire once again, this time for debuting a space-inspired outfit during her “Lifetimes” tour, which follows her recent appearance on the historic all-female Blue Origin flight. Fans have been quick to criticize the pop star, calling her new look and actions a “desperate attempt to stay relevant.”
On Saturday, the “E.T.” singer shared a photo on X, showing off a cut-out bodysuit that seemed to be made of metal, along with metal arm cuffs, leg covers, and a matching hat. The ensemble was part of her concert attire for the “Lifetimes” tour, which kicked off in Mexico City on Wednesday.
“Introducing KP143,” Perry captioned the post, giving fans a closer look at her out-of-this-world outfit.
However, Perry has faced heavy criticism ever since her 11-minute spaceflight earlier this month, and the negative reactions to her latest outfit have only added fuel to the fire.
One user commented, “Is this what happens after you go to space and back?” Another added, “You went to space for [10 to 11] minutes and now you’re an alien?” Some even questioned the value of her brief space journey, with one remarking, “Why did you kiss the ground when you [sic] only flight [sic] for [10 to 11] minutes with no physical training and zero effort?”
Perry, 40, has also faced harsher critiques, including one person who wrote, “You have become insufferable,” while another claimed, “Wtf. Desperate attempt to stay relevant. Good luck with that astro-nut.”
The space-inspired outfit was just one element of Perry’s extravagant performance during her “Lifetimes” tour launch. She wore multiple space-themed costumes and performed robotic dance moves while singing her 2012 hit “Part of Me.”
On April 14, Perry took part in Blue Origin’s all-female space flight alongside Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. During her 62-mile journey above Earth, Perry proudly showcased a daisy symbolizing her and Orlando Bloom’s daughter, Daisy Dove. Her moment of landing back on Earth, where she kissed the ground, went viral.
While fans have criticized the flight, some celebrities, like Olivia Munn and Emily Ratajkowski, also called out the women for contributing to the depletion of resources and environmental harm. However, Gayle King, 70, defended the flight, stating, “Anybody that’s criticizing doesn’t really understand what is happening here.” Sánchez, 55, also defended the flight, saying the negative comments made her “really fired up.”
