The Kansas City Royals have teamed up with Wild Collective to launch a new women’s clothing line, “Women of The K.” The collaboration features Royals players’ and coaches’ wives, who played a pivotal role in designing the collection.
FOX4 spoke with Emma Erceg and Amanda Lugo, who shared that the idea behind the line was to create Royals-themed clothing that women would actually enjoy wearing. They highlighted the limited and often unflattering options available for women in the sports apparel market.
“I mean, as you can see, just looking around the store, everything is for men,” Erceg said. “And then there’s this corner for women.” She explained how challenging it can be to find stylish, feminine sports apparel, a gap they hope to fill with the new line.
Lugo added that the collection represents more than just the team. “One thing about the collection is it really represents the team behind the team,” she said. “It’s the front office, the coaches, the players’ wives; we all came together and we’re all so different, but we all support the Royals on the field.”
Erceg expressed her surprise at being so involved in the design process, saying it was exciting to be part of the creation from start to finish. “I had no idea that they were gonna have us be in the shoot,” she said. Both women had the chance to model the collection, which was shot by Lauren Pusateri at her studio in the West Bottoms.
“It was really cool,” Erceg said. “She had an amazing studio.” Lugo agreed, calling the experience “so much fun,” and noted that the entire photoshoot crew was all female, from the stylist to the photographers and videographers.
Pusateri explained that the Royals reached out to her for a photoshoot with an all-female vision in mind. She said it was important to create a positive and uplifting environment, where the women could truly shine. “It was really fun to ask them about their relationships with each other,” she said. “They all are really there for each other.”
Whitney Manney was brought in to style the shoot, showcasing the range and versatility of the collection. “They did an awesome job,” Erceg said. “It’s safe to say that we’re very happy with the way it turned out.”
The collection is designed to be more than just sportswear. “It’s all so cute,” Erceg said. “I feel like they not only could wear it to the game, but wear it out because Kansas City is a very rare city in that sense…they love to rep Kansas City.”
Lugo added that the pieces are perfect for busy moms. “As a busy mom, sometimes I’m coming from T-ball practice straight to the game,” she said. “So I can wear something simple and toss that jean jacket over top of it.”
