Yours Clothing Closes Norwich Store as City Faces Another High Street Loss

by Demos

Yours Clothing, renowned for its plus-size fashion collections, has suddenly closed its Norwich city centre location, leaving its former outlet at St Stephens Street unrecognizable. The store, which once proudly displayed the brand’s iconic pink heart logo, has been stripped of all branding, leaving behind empty shelves and mannequins.

A sign in the window now reads: “For Sale! Store fixtures and equipment. Please ask in store for details.” This closure adds to the growing list of high street retail losses, following recent shutdowns of stores like Wilko and the former Poundland.

The closure has left many local residents disappointed, with some taking to social media to express their frustration. Zoe London, a loyal customer, shared her devastation: “Why??? Now there is no reason for me to go in the city anymore, it’s the only shop in Norwich that does jeans that fit me. That’s it, Norwich has gone downhill. I got my Mum a Yours voucher, what am I going to do now?”

The nearest Yours Clothing store is now in Great Yarmouth, which is a 38-minute drive away, leading to more frustration from local shoppers. Michelle Egan expressed her disappointment, saying, “Let’s hope they find another shop that’s the only place I like and I won’t be setting foot in Great Yarmouth.”

Adding to the uncertainty, the space where the Yours Clothing store once stood may soon become home to a new fast-food restaurant. The London-based chain, Pepe’s Piri Piri, has applied for planning permission to take over the site, with designs submitted to Norwich City Council earlier this year for a new shopfront, signage, and an extraction canopy.

A decision on the planning application is expected on May 8. However, many locals are unhappy with the prospect of another fast food outlet on the high street. Katheryn Shelsher commented, “We have 3 cafes we don’t need anymore,” while Terri Browne lamented, “Another one!!” Teresa Mulligan also shared her dismay, saying, “Like we need another fast food place!”
