Every year, the Met Gala arrives on the first Monday of May, and traditionally, most male attendees show up wearing the same black tuxedos they’ve been cycling through all awards season. No shade—classic suits are a staple for a reason. But with this year’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit highlighting the art of suiting, all eyes were on the men—and, to everyone’s surprise and delight, they finally stepped up.
The 2025 Met Gala’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” paid tribute to the event’s menswear-themed exhibit, resulting in a refined parade of three-piece suits, ornate brooches, canes, top hats, and even a piano-shaped backpack courtesy of André 3000. The men’s fashion game reached a new high, spearheaded by co-chairs Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky. Pharrell impressed in a pearl-detailed Louis Vuitton suit jacket, Hamilton stood out in a crisp white Wales Bonner outfit topped with an embellished beret, Rocky opted for a sleek black tailored Awge suit paired with an umbrella, and Domingo turned heads in a Valentino ensemble featuring a checkered blazer and a polka dot scarf tie.
Standout looks didn’t stop with the co-chairs. Bad Bunny rocked an olive-toned Prada outfit, while Burna Boy showcased a richly patterned burgundy suit and matching cape by Ozwald Boateng. Brooches were the accessory of the night, seen on Leon Bridges, Adrien Brody, Chance the Rapper, and Caleb McLaughlin, among others. Several attendees embraced dramatic capes and effortlessly draped jackets, possibly honoring the legacy of André Leon Talley, whose fashion influence is showcased in the current exhibit. Jaden Smith, Cody Renard Richard, and Edvin Thompson were among those who brought that dramatic flair.
Women also leaned into the tailoring theme with just as much impact. Yara Shahidi, Hunter Schafer, and Imaan Hammam delivered flawless tailored looks. WNBA star Breanna Stewart turned heads in a cream suit by Sergio Hudson, and model Ugbad Abdi made a statement in a paisley-patterned, fur-lined cape and pin-striped trousers from the Michael Kors Collection.
Now that the bar has been raised, there’s no going back. The 2025 Met Gala proved that when it comes to menswear, the men can indeed understand—and elevate—the assignment.
