Lewis Hamilton to Co-Host Met Gala 2025, Celebrating Menswear and Black Style

by Demos

The 2025 Met Gala is set to spotlight menswear and black style, with some of the entertainment world’s biggest names preparing for the fashion industry’s most anticipated night of the year. Among the co-chairs for the event are Pharrell Williams and Lewis Hamilton, both of whom will play a significant role in raising funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

The Met Gala, which takes place annually in New York City, attracts top-tier celebrities from film, fashion, and music. This year, the gala promises to be even more notable, as the focus shifts to the celebration of black style and its profound impact on menswear. The theme of the event is inspired by the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which draws on Monica L. Miller’s influential book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibit explores black style from the 18th century to the present day, particularly through the lens of dandyism.

The dress code for the evening, “Tailored for You,” references the suiting and menswear featured in the exhibition. This marks the first Met Gala in over two decades to exclusively focus on menswear, a moment that highlights the richness and significance of black style in fashion history. Usher, a member of the gala committee, expressed that the theme is timely and a powerful tribute to black culture, which deserves continuous celebration.

The event will feature a range of references to black style, especially in the context of menswear, with many of the male and female guests showcasing the ways in which black fashion has influenced style across the centuries. The Costume Institute’s exhibition aims to provide a cultural and historical exploration of black style, making this Met Gala an event to remember.

Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour will once again oversee the event, joined by an impressive roster of co-chairs including Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and LeBron James. The gala’s host committee also includes a diverse group of black talent, such as athlete Simone Biles, filmmaker Spike Lee, actress Ayo Edebiri, musicians Doechii, Usher, Tyla, Janelle Monáe, and André 3000, along with author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and playwright Jeremy O. Harris.

The Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 5th, as is tradition on the first Monday of May. Guests are expected to begin arriving at 6:00 PM EST (11:00 PM BST), and while the event itself remains private, the red carpet provides ample opportunities for media coverage. Although the public is not allowed to attend, the excitement will be captured through live streams, with Vogue offering coverage across their digital platforms, including YouTube. US viewers can also watch on Peacock and E! Online, and other outlets will offer live coverage on social media platforms.

Despite the widespread coverage, the Met Gala is an exclusive event, with only around 450 invited guests. Typically, luxury brands purchase tables and invite celebrities, as it’s an opportunity to showcase their latest designs. The cost of attending is steep, with individual tickets reportedly priced at $75,000 (£56,000), while a 10-seat table can cost upwards of $350,000. Proceeds from the event go to the Costume Institute, making it both an exclusive and philanthropic occasion.
