Rapper, fashion icon, and upcoming MET Gala co-chair A$AP Rocky recently appeared on The Run-Through Podcast with Variety, where he opened up about his fashion philosophy, relationship with Rihanna, and how fatherhood fuels his creativity. During the conversation with hosts Chioma Nnadi and Leah Faye Cooper, A$AP Rocky discussed his role in challenging gender norms in fashion and his shared wardrobe with his superstar partner.
The rapper emphasized his desire to redefine fashion boundaries for men, criticizing the way society assigns gender to clothing and accessories. “I want to represent, I want to be a catalyst for daring men,” Rocky stated. “I don’t know who drew the line between femininity and masculinity. I don’t see any barriers for me.”
He also shared a playful glimpse into his relationship with Rihanna, revealing how the two frequently borrow each other’s clothing. “She has pieces she doesn’t know I actually stole,” he laughed. “She does it to me all the time. Sometimes you just see her in an interview or a paparazzi photo like, ‘Wait, there goes my Miu Miu jacket! What the f*ck? I was looking for that since 2021!’”
In addition to fashion, Rocky reflected on the influence his two young sons, RZA Athelston Mayers (2) and Riot Rose Mayers (21 months), have had on his life and art. He explained that fatherhood now serves as his core creative inspiration. “Being a father is my creative process now because I just embodied it as a whole,” he said. “I never really had a role model or just an iconic figure. I guess I’m that for people—and I didn’t purposely try to do that—but I take it as a badge of honor.”
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, has long been known for his bold style and innovative approach to fashion. This year, he will co-chair the prestigious MET Gala alongside Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams. He also took on a new creative role earlier in 2025 as Ray-Ban’s first-ever Creative Director, giving him yet another platform to push the boundaries of style and identity.
