A new chapter in formal menswear is about to begin in Basildon as Charles Moore Bespoke prepares to open a new store in the Eastgate Shopping Centre. The independent tailoring brand, known for its high-quality bespoke suits and formal attire, is set to occupy the former Lids unit in the heart of the centre.
The space became available following the closure of Lids—an American sportswear retailer—in December. The chain, which offered a variety of sports merchandise including Formula One, NFL, and NBA gear, had only been trading in Eastgate since 2022, having replaced the “Pop The Look” clothing store.
Now, signs for Charles Moore Bespoke have appeared at the unit, and renovation work is actively underway. The upcoming launch marks a significant shift in the space from casual sportswear to refined, made-to-measure menswear.
This won’t be the first location for Charles Moore, which has already established a reputable presence with a bespoke tailoring shop inside the Whitgift Centre in Croydon. The brand is known for its craftsmanship and focus on classic formalwear, catering to men seeking custom suits for professional and special occasions.
The arrival of Charles Moore Bespoke adds to the momentum of new businesses breathing life into Eastgate. Among the latest arrivals is a brand-new Waterstones bookstore, which has returned to Basildon town centre after a ten-year absence. The bookshop has opened in the former Superdry unit near the shopping centre’s main entrance.
With a mix of fashion, literature, and local enterprise, Eastgate Shopping Centre continues to evolve as a destination that combines variety and quality for Basildon’s shoppers.
