Sander Lak, the creative mind behind the cherished yet now-defunct New York-based label Sies Marjan, is making his comeback to the fashion industry with a new venture: his eponymous menswear brand. Named Sanderlak, the new label is scheduled to make its debut during Paris Fashion Week Men’s later this month.
Lak, who earned a Master’s degree in menswear from Central Saint Martins, previously spent five pivotal years at Dries Van Noten, contributing to both men’s and women’s collections. In 2016, he launched Sies Marjan, which quickly garnered industry acclaim. Backed by billionaire philanthropists Nancy and Howard Marks, the brand earned prestigious recognition, including the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year award and prominent retail placements, such as Barneys New York. However, the financial turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led to the brand’s closure in 2020.
Now, with the support of angel investors, Lak is introducing Sanderlak, a brand that reflects his personal journey and multicultural upbringing—spanning Malaysia, Gabon, Scotland, and the Netherlands. The collections will draw inspiration from specific geographical locations, with each setting influencing the themes, colors, materials, and overall mood of the line.
Sanderlak will present two main collections per year, starting with its inaugural line, which will be unveiled next month in Paris through private appointments.
