Australian Fashion Week 2025 commenced in stunning style, paying homage to one of the country’s most iconic fashion houses. The event opened with a glamorous outdoor show by Carla Zampatti, held at Circular Quay in Sydney, celebrating both the rich heritage and modern evolution of the beloved label.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Carla Zampatti brand, which was originally founded in 1965 by the late, legendary designer Carla Zampatti. Since her passing in 2021, the label has been guided by creative director Tanya Eamon Beattie, who infused the milestone collection with both timeless elegance and contemporary flair.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sydney Harbour, models graced the runway in designs that encapsulated Zampatti’s hallmark sophistication. The collection included luxurious silk fabrics and feathered embellishments, alongside clean, minimalist silhouettes in black, white, and a standout shade of dandelion yellow.
The star-studded front row included a mix of celebrities and notable guests, with one particularly regal presence—Count Nikolai of Denmark, the nephew of Australian-born Queen Mary, garnering significant attention.
In a heartfelt nod to the brand’s history and influence on Australian fashion, the collection also featured collaborative designs created with 14 prominent Australian designers. These included industry leaders like Christopher Esber, Akira Isogawa, and Carla’s daughter Bianca Spender, each adding their unique voice to the tribute pieces.
Speaking about the occasion, Alex Schuman, Carla Zampatti’s son and current CEO of the brand, reflected on its broader significance. “This anniversary isn’t just about the brand—it’s a recognition of the incredible journey of the Australian fashion industry,” he said.
Backstage, the energy was equally vibrant, particularly among the beauty team led by Madison Voloshin for Shark Beauty. The hairstyling drew direct inspiration from Carla Zampatti herself.
“She had incredible hair—strong yet elegant,” Voloshin shared. “I once had the privilege of styling her hair. For this show, we reflected that legacy with a sleek side part, soft waves, and structured volume, all aimed at capturing the strength and femininity that defined Carla’s style.”
The powerful opening show seamlessly merged nostalgia and innovation, solidifying the Carla Zampatti brand’s place at the heart of Australian fashion—past, present, and future. As Fashion Week unfolds, the show sets a high bar for what’s to come, reminding the industry and its fans of the enduring power of style rooted in legacy.
