Suzan Mutesi has once again turned heads at Australian Fashion Week, making an appearance on day two with an outfit that has everyone talking. The 38-year-old, often labeled a ‘fake influencer’, drew attention this year in a strange preppy ensemble—just a year after causing a stir by attending the same event wrapped in a towel.
This time around, Mutesi stepped out wearing a quirky combination that featured a black Ralph Lauren polo shirt tucked into a pleated mini skirt. Completing the look were thigh-high white socks with black bands and shiny kitten heels tipped in gold. But the standout detail was a black sports coat draped oddly over her torso, with only one arm in the sleeve.
The Sydney-based media personality accessorized with a faux leather handbag, a white cap, and a blonde wig, opting for a completely bare-faced, no-makeup appearance.
Mutesi’s fashion choices at Carriageworks, the main venue for Australian Fashion Week, have become somewhat of a spectacle over the years. In 2024, she made headlines by arriving at the event wearing just a towel—a striking imitation of the Vetements towel look sported by Doja Cat at the Met Gala the same year.
That infamous moment saw Mutesi walking from her grey Mazda while trying to keep the towel secure. Upon spotting photographers, she immediately turned the gravel car park into her personal runway, striking several poses despite the unconventional attire.
Adding to the chaos of last year’s appearance, her vehicle broke down outside the venue, forcing her to miss a show while waiting for mechanical help. The scene only added to the drama surrounding her presence at the fashion event.
Controversy has long followed Mutesi’s attendance at Australian Fashion Week. Despite her large social media following—1.2 million Instagram followers, many of whom she has been accused of buying—industry insiders have questioned her legitimacy at the event.
“There have been times she wasn’t even invited to the shows but still showed up at Carriageworks just to be photographed,” one source alleged. “She only attended a few actual fashion shows. Most of the time, she was just loitering outside for publicity.”
Mutesi’s ongoing appearances at the event continue to blur the lines between influencer culture and legitimate fashion media presence. Whether embraced or criticized, her unconventional choices consistently put her in the spotlight—though not always for the reasons one might expect at a fashion showcase.
