Fashion enthusiasts in Wheeling have a new reason to celebrate as the city’s inaugural Fashion Week kicks off during the first week of June.
This volunteer-led, non-profit event runs from June 1 to June 7, featuring a variety of activities throughout the week. The grand finale will be a debut runway fashion show on June 7 at Waterfront Hall.
Emily Rouse, founder and chair of the event, expressed strong optimism about the launch. “I think they’re going to see there’s a lot of creativity in Wheeling,” she said. “We have designers, and it takes a whole industry to put this together, so you’ll also see hair and makeup and food being a part of it. So, a lot of different industries coming together to put on this fashion show.”
The runway will showcase clothing and accessories from nine local businesses, highlighting everything from fresh designs to upcycled materials. Among the participants is Two Times Clothing and Collections, whose owner Peyton Bourgeois emphasized the importance of spotlighting local talent. “Being able to get put in the spotlight and shed some light that there are fashionistas here in Wheeling and people that care about clothing,” Bourgeois said.
Though the show is already sold out, organizers encourage attendees to join the after-party at Waterfront Hall.
Spencer Porter, a committee member, explained the event’s purpose: “The fact that this event is three times sold out, I know it is a testament to how many great people are here in Wheeling that want to have fun. Wheeling is alive, we are reblossoming, and you can see that in the excitement in all of these events.”
The first Wheeling Fashion Week aims to celebrate the unique style, artistry, and culture of the Ohio Valley, marking an exciting new chapter for the city’s creative scene.
