An inspiring afternoon of empowerment and generosity took place as hundreds of women gathered for the Bottomless Closet spring luncheon, an event celebrating over two decades of service in helping women prepare for success in the workforce.
The New York City-based non-profit, Bottomless Closet, marked its 26th anniversary with the luncheon, highlighting its ongoing mission to support women through job interview preparation, including professional clothing, coaching, and training. Over the years, the organization has helped tens of thousands of women across the city move toward economic independence.
For Yairi Velez, the occasion was especially emotional. Once a client in need of assistance, she returned to the luncheon in a powerful new role—moderating a panel of women and celebrating a community that once supported her. Velez, who immigrated from the Dominican Republic to live with her family in the U.S., recalled the challenges of finding appropriate clothing for job interviews.
But her journey didn’t stop with just an outfit. Through Bottomless Closet, Velez received guidance on resume writing and interview skills that helped her stand out. Today, she serves as the Program Director for New York City’s Department of Aging. Her story exemplifies what Executive Director Melissa Norden describes as the heart of Bottomless Closet’s impact—the transformation of lives.
The event, held at Cipriani’s on 42nd Street, drew a large crowd, celebrating the powerful theme of women helping women. PIX11’s Monica Morales returned as host for the third consecutive year, underscoring the ongoing commitment of the community to uplift and empower women across the city.
