Revolutionizing Fashion for Women with Limited Mobility

by Demos

A Louisiana native is reshaping the fashion industry with a unique clothing line designed specifically for women with limited mobility. Helya Mohammadian, a fashion designer, created Slick Chicks to fill a significant gap in the market and offer dignity and comfort to women who have been overlooked by traditional fashion brands.

The idea for Slick Chicks emerged from a personal experience. Mohammadian was trying to find solutions for her sister, who was recovering from a C-section. Drawing from her fashion design background, she created her first prototype, which would ultimately lead to the creation of a brand that combines style with accessibility.

“I really struggled in the beginning to get this business going. Getting people to understand the need for this product was a challenge,” Mohammadian recalled. However, once the brand launched, demand grew quickly. Women from all walks of life, including wheelchair users, those with chronic illnesses, and women in the military, expressed their desire for more accessible clothing options.

“There was no adaptive clothing in the market, and that’s where my passion came from. I realized there was a huge gap that needed to be filled,” Mohammadian said. Her mission is to create products that make women feel good, empowered, and confident.

Slick Chicks is a solution-based clothing line designed to cater to women post-pregnancy, post-surgery, women with disabilities, and seniors with limited mobility. The brand’s offerings include bras, underwear, lounge wear, athletic wear, and leisure wear—all designed for ease of use and adaptability without sacrificing style.

“Everyone wants to feel good in their clothing, regardless of age or ability,” said Mohammadian. “So, it’s really for anyone who wants ease of access and a product that makes them feel good. Fashion should never be compromised for functionality. And as we age, we still want to look good. My mom, who is in her 70s, loves the bras for their convenience and comfort.”

Raised in Ruston, Louisiana, after her family immigrated from Iran when she was three years old, Mohammadian now lives in New York City. From there, she has grown Slick Chicks, expanding its product range to meet the diverse needs of her customers.

“We’re bridging the gap between fashion and accessibility,” she said. “We’re offering products made to meet people where they are in life.”

After nearly a decade of hard work and dedication, the response to Slick Chicks has been overwhelming. Mohammadian’s goal is for every woman, regardless of body type, age, or ability, to feel comfortable, beautiful, and empowered in their clothing.

“Independence in getting dressed is huge for someone’s confidence,” she explained. “It sets the tone for the day. If a person can dress themselves or receive help from a caregiver, it boosts their self-esteem and sense of dignity. Everyone deserves that.”

Recently, Slick Chicks expanded into CVS stores across Louisiana, and customers can also browse and order products on their website. The brand continues to make waves, offering accessible yet fashionable clothing to women who have long been underserved by the fashion industry.
