Australian Fashion Week 2025 is in full swing in Sydney, and alongside the stunning runway presentations, the street style has already delivered standout fashion moments. The week launched with a spectacular Carla Zampatti show on Monday night, celebrating the label’s 60th anniversary. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the event featured a palm tree-lined runway illuminated with bright lights, followed by the official opening party.
As expected, the fashion crowd embraced the evening’s after-dark aesthetic. The streets around the venue were filled with chic ensembles that balanced daring and elegance. Style watchers noted a strong showing of sheer fabrics layered beneath sharp tailoring, as well as semi-opaque tights paired with towering platform heels. The city’s trademark laid-back vibe was present too, thanks to a mix of cropped leather and denim co-ords, blending Sydney’s casual essence with the more formal tone of the event.
Fashion Week looks a little different this year, and not just on the style front. After IMG’s departure in late 2024, the event’s future seemed uncertain. However, a major shift was confirmed in December, when it was announced that Australian Fashion Week would return in 2025 as an industry-led event. Spearheaded by the Australian Fashion Council (AFC) and Destination NSW, this year’s schedule brings together both iconic and emerging designers, reaffirming the event’s central role in the nation’s fashion scene.
Tuesday marked the first full day of presentations at Carriageworks, beginning with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony held outside the venue. The day’s shows included exciting collections from New Zealand labels such as Paris Georgia, Courtney Zheng, and Amy Lawrence, featured in The Frontier showcase. The day also welcomed major names like Lee Matthews, Beare Park, Nagnata, and Macgraw, who unveiled their Resort 2026 collections.
With 30 designers featured in this year’s lineup, the grounds of Carriageworks have become a hotspot for inspiring street style, offering plenty of outfit ideas for fashion lovers and industry insiders alike. From bold accessories to reimagined classics, the street fashion scene is already proving to be as much a highlight as the runway itself.
