Democracy Clothing is bringing an exciting pop-up event to Austin, offering 1,000 pairs of free jeans to local women over two days. The event, scheduled for Saturday, May 31st, and Sunday, June 1st, from noon to 4 p.m. at 920 Congress Avenue, is part of the brand’s mission to help women feel confident and comfortable in their jeans. Caren Lettiere, President and Founder of Democracy Clothing, shared details about the initiative in a recent virtual interview with Studio 512.
Democracy Clothing is a women-founded, women-focused casual lifestyle brand that centers its innovation around inclusivity and body confidence. At the heart of its product line is the “Ab”solution® jean, crafted with stretch denim, hidden power-mesh panels, and a no-gap waistband designed to mold, hold, and flatter every body type. The brand’s philosophy is rooted in empowering women of all shapes and sizes to look and feel their best in denim.
The idea behind giving away jeans rather than selling them is to let women experience firsthand what sets Democracy’s denim apart. According to Lettiere, once women try them on, they’ll understand the craftsmanship and comfort that go into each pair. The brand aims to make an authentic introduction to the Austin community through this generous and engaging initiative.
This is not the first time Democracy Clothing has hosted a try-on event. A similar pop-up in Jacksonville was a great success, with women bringing their daughters, friends, and neighbors to share in the experience. The sense of community and excitement was tangible, and the company hopes to recreate that same energy in Austin.
Austin was chosen for this pop-up because of its vibrant and community-driven spirit. Lettiere noted that the women of Austin embody the values that Democracy stands for, making the city an ideal location for the next stop in their campaign. Rather than a commercial transaction, the company aims to create a meaningful and personal connection with local women.
In alignment with its mission to uplift women, Democracy Clothing is also ensuring that every vendor participating in the event — from the chef to the DJ — is a female-owned business. This commitment reflects the brand’s ongoing dedication to supporting and empowering other women in business and beyond.
The event will also feature a charitable component in partnership with SAFE Austin, a nonprofit supporting survivors of abuse and violence. Attendees are encouraged to bring gently used jeans to donate. For each pre-loved pair received, Democracy Clothing will provide a brand-new pair, reinforcing their commitment to community support and social impact.
To help spread the word, Democracy Clothing has teamed up with Austin Moms, a trusted local platform known for its deep connection with the women of Austin. The partnership has allowed Democracy to reach a wide audience and engage with women who truly resonate with the brand’s mission and values.
The event is open to all women, free of charge, and while RSVPs are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome. Guests are advised to use ride-sharing services if possible, though public parking is readily available in downtown Austin, particularly around Congress Avenue, 9th, and 10th Streets.
