Ananya Goenka Bagaria is set to make her fashion debut with a collection that redefines how women engage with clothing. Titled Reign Your Narrative, the line will launch on May 16 at Bombaim, offering an empowering sartorial statement for women who lead with purpose and poise.
Despite coming from a finance background and having spent the past eight years abroad, 27-year-old Ananya felt a pull towards fashion upon returning to India. “Fashion has always fascinated me,” she says. “After moving back, I wanted to build something of my own — and fashion, even though it’s highly saturated, still often leaves women feeling like they have nothing to wear. That contradiction inspired me.”
With that realization, Reign Your Narrative came to life — a collection that highlights elegance, modern design, and meaningful intent. However, it isn’t about giving women confidence; instead, it complements the confidence they already possess. “I want confident women to wear my designs,” she explains. “My clothes are not meant to empower — they are designed for already powerful women who are telling their own stories. The collection is an accessory to their voice, not a replacement.”
At the heart of her design philosophy lies a thoughtful blend of structure and softness. “We anchor the collection in architectural silhouettes — like jackets and structured forms — but contrast them with flowing elements through asymmetrical drapes and breathable fabrics such as satin organza and viscose,” she says. The result is a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity — timeless shapes with a contemporary, graceful twist.
Textile selection is equally deliberate. While outerwear typically calls for stiffer fabrics, Ananya opted for materials that balance form with lightness, keeping the summer launch in mind. “We chose satin, viscose, and organza for their ability to maintain structure while offering breathability and elegance,” she explains.
Versatility is another cornerstone of the brand’s DNA. Ananya emphasizes that every piece should work effortlessly across different settings — from brunches to cocktail events. “I’m not creating just another fashion label,” she states. “I believe in slow fashion and utility. My clothes should pair with anything — jeans, skirts, trousers — and be styled to suit each woman’s individual flair.”
Craftsmanship, too, plays a crucial role. “India’s legacy lies in its craftsmanship. Our karigars are the backbone of this collection — bringing refined detailing, meticulous finishing, and elevated quality to every piece,” she says proudly.
While the brand will be accessible online, the debut showcase at Bombaim provides a tangible introduction to her vision. The decision to go digital-first is rooted in both financial prudence and strategic insight. “Coming from a finance background, I need to analyze customer response before scaling,” she notes. “Also, unlike Delhi or Mumbai, Calcutta lacks a centralized hub for designer boutiques, so opening a physical store doesn’t make economic sense right now.”
